Following his feature on Detroit hip hop/ electronic collective Liquid Monk’s recent release ‘Come Down’ – singer/songwriter Apropos comes through with his debut solo material ‘She Makes Me’. The emerging artist comes from a history of music – his father was a church singer and pastor, his grandfather a singer. It’s an effortlessly gospel style that Apropos blends with a glitchy, synth-pop instrumental on a track that’s as glossy as it is a mainstream-looking gem.
Moving between Detroit and London, Apropos linked up with fellow emerging producers AZTX to create ‘She Makes Me’ – the first taster of his debut body of work. The single will be released on July 27 on Beverly Martel, a label fast becoming the home of unorthodox and eclectic hip-hop, electronica and indie. The first release from his upcoming album, Apropos positions himself firmly in the emerging tastemaker sphere with a track that sits equally between cool gospel and future pop. It’s a serious statement from the young artist and one that sets to prick up ears across both sides of the Atlantic.
