Little Boots, SBTRKT and NewVillager are all slated for this fall’s Mondrian Sessions…

A free show? Great. A free show curated by a local label? Even better. A free show curated by a local label at a swanky rooftop bar? Count us in.

L.A.’s own IAMSOUND Records is teaming up once again with the Mondrian Hotel for a new slate of free Mondrian Sessions at its posh Skybar. The poolside concert series kicks off this Friday September 23rdwith an acoustic set from UK electropop darling Little Boots.

Other artists to perform include masked funk-dubstep DJ SBTRKT(who’s also slated to play this year’s HARD Haunted Mansion) on Oct. 24 and rising art-synth duo NewVillager Oct. 20. Guest DJs will spin before and after the sets, with label GM Paul Tao lined up for Friday.

The Mondrian Sessions are more than just another freebie night out – IAMSOUND has a knack for attracting artists sizzling with hype but who have the bite to back it up (past performers include Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn and John and Fool’s Gold). The series has also been known to switch it up, hosting film screenings and other music-related events, like the West Coast premiere of the Creation Records documentary Upside Down. Factor in the mod decor and one of the finest views of the city’s skyline, and you have yourself an evening that’s quintessentially and memorably L.A. RSVP here for any of the upcoming shows, but be sure to show up early as they quickly hit capacity.

Nikki Lane’s humble upbringing in South Carolina shines through on her Walk of Shame full length. Though she left life in the South behind in favor of the big city vibe, her roots remain present. Her lyrics come to life with the Southern sass that remains in her voice as she sings over slide guitars and a swinging percussion.

The album, which is set for release on Sept. 27, is full of songs about love and lust, heartbreak, longing for the right man and the occasional one-night stand. Her honesty is what allows her to fit right into a classic country setting – she’s far from pop-country princess, Taylor Swift, and more Loretta Lynn.

Lane’s Walk of Shame is about her journey to get out of something she never wanted. “Your expectations are a little bit limited,” she said in a press release about growing up in a small town, “People expect you to go to a four-year college, get married and follow that Southern way of life. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do but I knew it wasn’t being offered to me”

RCRD LBL features Nikki Lane.

“I’ve been waitin’ for something good to come my way,” sings countrified newcomer Nikki Lane on “Gone, Gone, Gone” — a sentiment that’s been around as long as American music. And what better time to bring back that down-on-your-luck style than now? Lane, equal parts Neko Case and Loretta Lynn, leads the way with a sultry, Southern-accented vocal performance over anchored bass, clip-clop drums and just the right amount of slide guitar. No, it’s not contemporary country, but more like something from a past era we’re living through over and over again. Lane’s debut LP, Walk Of Shame, is out September 27 via IAMSOUND and an EP with this track is available now”.
